| Notes: |
'Advertisement by the Editor' states (p. iii) 'that the first half of this Tale was not only written but printed long before' the appearance of Waverley. Colophon in vol. 4 reads: 'Printed by John Moir, Edinburgh, 1815'. Collates in sixes. Copy in National Library of Scotland (Vts.13.f.19) has t.p. with an Edinburgh imprint (Edinburgh: Printed by John Moir, Royal Bank Close, for Macredie, Skelly, and Muckersy; Longman [etc.], London; and John Cumming, Dublin, 1815), though vols 2 and 3 of this set belong to the 'Second Edition' (also with an Edinburgh imprint). The likelihood is that edns. were published simultaneously in London and Edinburgh with different t.ps. |
